Kapua Browning, Founder of Honua Skincare, was born with two given names. Kapualaha'ole means ‘exotic flower’, and Kawahinelunaho'omalu translates to ‘the woman in charge of bringing peace.’ With a family lineage known for protecting the land, water and farmlands of Hawai’i, Kapua was raised on the traditions of the local farmers, of which few remain. Living up to both names, Kapua immersed herself in the study of Hawaiian botanical skincare, becoming a licensed esthetician and instructor. She and her husband Brandon, a Hawaiian Traditional Medicine practitioner, began crafting customized oils and tinctures for their clients using native Hawaiian botanicals.
In 2016, they birthed a brand with only one given name: Honua. Through Honua, which means ‘earth’ in Hawaiian, Kapua channels her passion to protect and share the native plants and farming rituals of Hawai’i by donating a portion of her profits to three organizations in her homeland: 'Āina Provide, Hoa 'Āina O Mākaha and the Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative. Still an exotic flower child and keeper of the peace, Kapua wears a Pua (flower) in her hair, a Hawaiian symbol of beauty and peace that brings a smile to those around her. She invites you to wear yours like a piece of jewelry. Handmade in California, it's sure to spread the Aloha spirit wherever you go.
